Trooper Tyler West, Grand County

“I wanted to write to you and say thanks to Trooper Tyler West. We ran out of gas literally at exit 82 for Moab. Trooper West approached us while we were waiting for AAA service. He was kind kind and considerate and said it would take a long time for AAA to show up. He said he would be right back with some gas, and he was literally back in 10 minutes. He helped putting the gas in the tank and made sure the car started. He followed us to the gas station to ensure we were safe. He should be commended on his work and attitude. Thanks again to Trooper Tyler West!” – P. Duhey

“Thank you to those who assisted with the single vehicle MVC in Lehi yesterday. I assisted with the driver on scene from shortly after the crash until he was loaded on the helo (I’m an RN). Everyone on scene was professional and helpful. So, thank you all for your professionalism and help!”

Trooper Rawlinson

” I wanted to report an officer that did an exceptional job in my opinion. Trooper Phil Rawlinson handled an incident in Petersboro caused by my brother in law who was driving under the influence. He accidentally reversed into the car my husband and I were in as we were trying to stop him from getting more alcohol. Even when my brother in law tried to beg his way out of going to jail, Trooper Rawlinson, though firm, remained respectful and compassionate. He was able to balance standing firmly by the law and necessary consequence (thank goodness) without sacrificing understanding, respect and compassion towards all of us. I understand that some (not many I’m sure) officers handle situations like that with more callousness and I can also understand why. That’s why officers like Trooper Rawlinson deserve recognition. I’d also like to remark on Sergeant Cade Brenchley’s kindness when I called to report Trooper Rawlinson’s behavior. He knew my brother in law and was sad to hear of his current condition. He too, though surely exposed to some ugly human behavior as an officer, maintained an attitude of love and compassion. I’m impressed and inspired by these officers Christlike ability to be firm and stand by right and justice without eliminating compassion and sincere love.”

Trooper Tyler Harris

“When driving home from a Spring Break trip, my husband was pulled over for speeding. He and I both knew he was speeding. After the citation was issued, we both commented as well as our three teenagers in the mini van, that the officer was polite, pleasant and very professional. He certainly didn’t have to be and we appreciated how well he handled the whole situation. I also realize you rarely get “thank yous” from someone who has been given a citation but again, we were grateful for how nice and professional he was. I hope my teenagers never get pulled over for speeding but this experience made them realize that not all officers are unkind and scary, actually changed their perspective and we had a great conversation in the car about it as we finished our drive home. Thank you.” J. Johnson

“I just witnessed 3 Utah Highway Patrol Officers stop traffic on south bound I15 so they could pick up large pieces of a semi blown out tire or two. They risk their lives daily in so many ways, just to make things safer for all of us. It time I say a big THANK YOU to them!” D. Delliskave

February 23, 2019 (submitted in April)

“Hello friendly Utah Highway Patrol Department. Back in February 23 I was stopped by Trooper Jared Hayes. I remember that day very well as I was on a photo assignment for my employer photographing gear we manufactured. While driving toward Wyoming facing an early sunrise and snow glare I failed to stay on my lane and perhaps followed too closely the vehicle ahead of me. All this happened as a result of me reaching for my sunglasses. A few moments before that I remembered seeing Trooper Hayes parked in the middle of the highway vigilant for any offender. I had no idea that potential offender would be me. I always thought of myself as a very conservative and safe driver. After a brief conversation with officer Hayes he stepped away into his vehicle. While I sat in my rental car the only thing I was thinking was “Reaching for my sunglasses is going to cost me a pretty penny this week”. Trooper Hayes came back with a warning and a friendly reminder to keep my eyes on the road. Honestly, had he given me a fine for my driving I would have accepted it knowing I did not keep my vehicle in my lane (the following too closely was debatable!) I want to thank him again for his vigilance and keeping not only me safe, but all others around me. I was the perfect little driver for the next three days while on assignment always keeping in mind the mercy and kindness of officer Hayes. I wish him safety, health and every blessing he deserves for keeping our great American roads safe for business travelers like me. I hope if we ever meet again it will not be while I pull down my car’s window. With great appreciation and respect. ” G. Hidalgo
