Sgt. Attridge, DUI Squad
“I was pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence back in 3/03/2012 (Salt Lake County) by one of your Highway Patrol Officers. This was probably the one of the best thing that has ever happened to me. I don’t remember the officers name but I do remember chatting with him and how kind he was to me during this process, given the circumstances. One thing that stuck with me was that right before he handed me off to other officers to get me booked was that he said “It’s going to be ok, it will only get better after this, I promise”. He was right. I now have an amazing wife, 2 sons and a great career. If that officer hadn’t pulled me over I have no idea where I would be right now because the friends and habits I had back then weren’t the best. Is there a way I can thank him personally? Maybe it’s not appropriate to have you send me his info or not but I would like to send him a more detailed message about my experience being pulled over. Is there a more direct email I can send his way Does he even still work for the HWY Patrol? Everything got better in my life since he pulled me over and I can’t thank him enough. Looking forward to your response.” – D.C.

Trooper Rose, Box Elder County
“I wanted to send a note of appreciation concerning the “above and beyond the line of duty” support Trooper Devin Rose provided to my father on the evening of 26 July 2021. My 86-year old father has had a rough go of things lately from being the victim of elderly scamming to being moved from his home in Las Vegas to South Ogden, Utah (the latter is my doing). He has only been here for a week and is not familiar with the area. He ventured out farther than he had before and got lost and didn’t have information with him to remind him where he lived. His venturing got him to Brigham City where he crossed paths with Trooper Rose. Trooper Rose quickly determined my father’s predicament and worked to find out where he should be and who should be contacted. Ultimately, Trooper Rose obtained my phone number, and I was able to head up to Brigham City from South Ogden to get my Dad. Trooper Rose learned my Dad was Type II Diabetic and said he would take my Dad to Burger King to get him something to eat while they waited for me. When I arrived, the two of them were sitting in Burger King having a good conversation. Trooper Rose was so kind, and I truly appreciated his actions to help my Dad. He made good on the age-old motto “to Serve and Protect”, and I wanted to be sure his actions didn’t go unnoticed…especially in this day when there is too much negativity to our Public Servants in the Highway Patrol. Thank you again, and God Bless!!” – P. Johnson

Sgt. Houskeeper, Juab County
I just wanted to express our gratitude for Sgt Houskeeper who helped my fiancé and me on our road trip on I15 on July 22, 2021. We experienced a blowout on our car near Mona and we’re waiting for AAA to come to help when Sgt Houskeeper arrived and generously helped us put on the spare tire despite the crazy, speeding traffic that was whizzing by. We seriously think he deserves a promotion and a raise! He couldn’t have been more kind or helpful and we will remember his thoughtfulness forever. Many thanks to the UHP for their courage and service. We are fans!” – S. Saunders

Trooper Mackelprang, Iron County
Message conveyed from V. Crawford who was on I-15 with a blown out tire on June 29 and was assisted by K9 Trooper Scott Mackelprang. She wanted to commend him for going above and beyond the call of duty. He made a difficult situation very tolerable. He gave assistance, and she didn’t feel she had properly thanked him. She cannot commend him more. She is a firefighter and she was so impressed by him and his time, effort and energy. It is a tribute and credit to our office to have him as a Trooper.

Dispatchers Alissa Prescott and Melissa Lawrence, Troopers Faust and Stevens
“Hello,
On 7/3/21 around 5:45 pm, I made a call to the 911 dispatcher to request help on the freeway in the Salt Lake area. My husband and I were pulling a small trailer with a Harley on it, to hand it off to my son in Montana. We hit a bump in the road and the tension in one of the straps loosed, allowing the bike to fall over. Thank God it stayed on the trailer and no one got hurt! I made the call to 911 to ask for an officer to provide emergency/caution lights behind us since traffic was heaving and moving very fast. I want to extend my thanks and sincere gratitude to the 911 dispatch, the UHP dispatcher and the officer who received the call and came to our aid. Everyone was very professional and helpful and my husband and I are extremely grateful for your help and service! It was a high-stress moment, and I’m afraid I do not know anyone’s names involved, but if there’s a way for the person who receives this to find out who the three people are, we would appreciate your help in letting them know that we thank them from the bottom of our hearts! The officer also went above and beyond by helping us push the motorcycle back to an upright positions so that it could be strapped. Thank you so much!” – L. and E. Lowry

Trooper Tew, Salt Lake County
“This may not be the proper avenue, but I want to thank the Trooper that helped my family and I change a flat tire. I am extremely grateful for her service and generosity in helping us safely get off the freeway. I did not catch her name but the incident happened on July 3 at around 5:30 pm near 4500 South in Salt Lake. Thank you very much!”

Trooper Sanchez, Utah County
“Hi! I was just pulled over on Friday July 2nd in the evening near the 2100 S exit in Lehi by Trooper Sanchez. My brake light was out and I was given a warning. I just wanted to let you know that I thought Trooper Sanchez was super professional and very kind. I was also very grateful that he took his safety and mine seriously. He came to my passenger side window away from the traffic; and when it was time to be on our way, he explained to me how he would have his lights on behind me to get us both back into traffic safely. It was dark, so I was worried about this. I would be saying this even if I had received a ticket. I don’t know if you can put this in his record or not, but I just wanted his bosses to know and have record of Trooper Sanchez’s great work out there. Have a great day!” S. Tiney
