Second Quarter 2023

Trooper Hancock, Salt Lake County

“I wanted to thank Trooper A. Hancock for stopping me in Logan Canyon. His kind demeanor and the warning he gave me has totally changed the way I drive and will probably save my life or someone else’s. I was always driving too fast in that stupid canyon. After I got his warning, I’ve since been using my cruise control and conscientiously obeying the speed limits, in the canyon and on other roads. I now drive like the old lady I am, but I’m far less stressed out when I go places and feel much safer. We also get better gas mileage. I figured I would only get one warning and I was so grateful to get it that I wanted to make the most of it. Trooper Hancock was friendly and polite when issuing the warning and I appreciate his attitude. It went a long way toward making me want to improve myself and I just really wanted him to know he is appreciated.” – J. Hendrickson

Trooper Baldwin, Kane County

“While we were out today we had a flat tire and Trooper Baldwin who works the Kane County portion of Utah pulled up and helped us fix it. Is there some way we can let his supervisor or dispatcher or anyone that should know how grateful we are that he was there. He was courteous, friendly and extremely helpful.” – G. and J. Enblom

Trooper Robertson, Summit County

“We had a girls youth group that was on their way home on HWY-20 from a camping retreat in Hatch, Utah when they experienced a problem with their trailer. We brought up a trailer, not the best trailer for the need, to transport the broken down trailer home to Santa Clara. We were struggling a bit when officer Robertson showed up and provided the help we needed which included a floor jack that he had in his patrol car. We were able to situate the trailer safely on the flatbed the best we could. He made sure we all felt like everything was secure and with a very firm handshake he sent us on our way. We are thankful for his help and kind demeanor; we may have never been able to get back on the road without his help. We’re pretty big officer Robertson fans and thankful for the UHP.” – T. Johnson

Trooper Ryan, Uintah County

“Hi there I would just like to thank Trooper B. Ryan for being so friendly and respectful. He pulled me over way back in January in Uintah county but since then , I’ve actually been a lot more mindful about the way I drive/speeding and I just wanted to let him know that I appreciate the work he’s doing! I hope you all get to pass this message along to him!” -D. Law

Trooper Cambell, Garfield County

“I was on vacation with my wife and son and we hit a deer on Sunday, May 7 on Highway 89, south of Panguitch, Ut. Shortly after the accident, Trooper Jared Campbell came upon the scene and what a blessing he was. He calmed us (well, me) down, put the deer out of it’s misery and gave us the name of a towing service. He proceeded to stay with us until the tow truck arrived. I cannot express how much it meant to us to have him there and to help us focus on the positive. The State of Utah, Department of Public Safety is lucky to have him on staff.” – T. Vanover

Sgt. McCoy, Salt Lake County

“Hello, I just wanted to send a note of appreciation to the brave trooper who stopped the wrong way driver on I-80 yesterday. Thank you for helping to keep us and our families safe. All the best” – S. Hale

“Hello, I just wanted to send a thank you. I was on 80 yesterday, heading westbound near Tooele. I was just a minute or two behind the incident. I’m hoping someone can pass along my sincerest “Thank You” to the trooper who intercepted the wrong-way driver. I would not have faired well in my little VW Golf if I was struck. I truly appreciate heroes stepping up in a time of need. I will be praying for a quick recovery for all involved.” – B. Lee

“Like many Utahns, I saw the news story of the trooper that heroically put himself in danger to cut off the wrong way driver during a busy time of day on Utah roads. This hit very close to home to me as I have co-workers and family that drive this highway every day about this time. I would like to recognize this trooper with a dinner for he and his friends/family. I have a friend that owns a bar that recognizes our local law enforcement. This bar does what are called “Challenge Coins”, they can be donated and waiting at the bar/restaurant for anyone to use. If you can put me in touch, I would like to donate a night out at this bar/restaurant for this brave trooper. if this can be accommodated, please let me know. Thank you.” – N. Lewis

“I just saw the video of the Utah Trooper who crashed hit patrol car into the wrong way driver out on I 80 by Lakepoint. The troopers actions almost certainly saved some other drivers life. Maybe even more than one. It’s one of the more heroic things I’ve seen. Selfless in every way. I hope the entire nation sees that video as it shows what good police officers do to protect the public. I’m no longer a Utah resident, but the entire state of Utah is more than fortunate to have such officers protecting them. I was relieved to read the trooper is not seriously hurt. Please express my appreciation to him to showing us all what police officers are really all about.” – R. Crooks

“Sgt. McCoy: Thank You for your BRAVERY , I’m am so Proud of our officers. That was the best textbook frontal PIT maneuver I’ve ever heard of. Thank You. Driving with that trailer he was probably ready to fall asleep if he was going Long Distance. I didn’t know any other way to message you.” – B. Lupton

Trooper Neighbor, Sevier County

“On April 5, 2023 my family and I were driving home from a trip to Zions NP. While driving north on SR-89 I was pulled over for speeding. The citing officer (I believe his last name was Neighbor) was a true gentleman and a professional of highest order. Although I wasn’t excited to be pulled over, I have son who is an aspiring police officer who was excited to experience an interaction with a peace officer. And despite receiving a well deserved citation for an expired registration, Trooper Neighbor exemplified the kind, courteous and professional conduct I have come to expect. Whatever Trooper Neighbor is being paid, it is not enough 😉 God bless Trooper Neighbor and the UHP for their dedicated service to people of Utah.” – S. Neilson

April 6, 2023

Trooper Rodriguez, Summit County

I am writing to express my sincere appreciation to UHP Trooper Rodriguez. On April 6th, 2023, I had a mishap on I 80 eastbound near the Port of Entry close to the Utah – Wyoming Border. Due bad road condition, I slid off the road and into deep snow on the side of the highway. An guardian angel traveler stopped and pulled my vehicle from the deep snow. I had to tow the vehicle back home. My good fortune was that Trooper Rodriguez happen to come along and kindly drove me back to Park City McDonald. I took a Uber from there to my home in Riverton. I am extremely overjoyed and happy by the kind assistance of both men. This is to offer my gratitude of the Trooper Rodriguez. Please kindly let him know that his service will never be forgotten. Thank you. Please accept my salute.” – S. Rimal

Trooper Bagley, Sevier County

Hello, I am writing to acknowledge Trooper T. Bagley for his professionalism and kind attitude. Trooper Bagley contacted me on a traffic stop on I70 just east of Richfield on 4/2/23. I had my 3-year-old son with me who was so excited to see an officer regardless of the situation. Trooper Bagley was friendly, kind, and professional to both of us. My son was positively impacted by this experience, and he can’t stop telling people how he got to say “hi” to a police officer. During the stop, I asked Officer Bagley about the beehive on his uniform/car and he beamed with pride when he explained what it stood for. It’s not easy to be a member of law enforcement in today’s political climate. and I’m firm believer that men and women in law enforcement deserve our support and appreciation. Especially, if they can remain positive and kind under the immense pressure put upon them. Please take care of Trooper Bagley- he’s a good one!” – K. Pattie
